Our Expert
Seth Levy - Trail Guru
Seth Levy is the Manager of the Western Public Lands Initiative at American Hiking Society. He has been actively involved in outdoor retail for many years and is a recovering “gear head.” Seth has extensive knowledge of women’s-specific backpacking & hiking products and works to show women how enjoyable and empowering great outdoor experiences are. Seth has hiked Vermont’s Long Trail end-to-end and walked the northern half of the Appalachian Trail in addition to long trips in Northern California and Alaska. When he’s not providing expert advice about the hiking experience, Seth works to protect the 26 million acre National Landscape Conservation System.

March 12 - 14, 2010: Backpacking Basics for Women
Get ready to venture to the wild with Wildside Adventures. Learn everything you need to know to get a pack on your back and get out on the trail. Topics covered include gear selection, what to pack without breaking your back (or bank account), trip planning, first aid, and much more.
March 13, 2010: Signal Knob Hike with Capital Hiking Club
Welcome spring with one of the area's classic hikes. Ascend view-filled Signal Knob Trail then hike along the Meneka Peak Trail and finish up with a descent on the Tuscarora Trail. Hikers who choose to go long add a side trip to the summit overlook featuring more great views and a Civil War signal tower.
Distance: short hike - 8.0 miles; long hike - 10.5 miles
Time: 8:00 AM
Where: Massanutten Mountains, VA
Cost: $25 for members; $28 for nonmembers. Cost includes transportation via club bus. See website for details.
